Back To Normal

Well, things have gotten back to normal after the insane sightings of two weeks ago.  Not only have I not seen Purple Finches or Golden-crowned Kinglets recently, but the flocks of 30-50 American Goldfinches have dissipated into more reasonable flocks of 6-15.  While I enjoy hosting flocks of birds, the mess caused by 50 perpetually-pooping Goldfinches can be a bit much to deal with.

Female Northern Flicker dining on... sunflower chips?  Yep, I had never seen it before, either.

However, after disappearing for a while, Lesser Goldfinches have returned (1-3 at a time).  Brown Creepers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, and a female Yellow-rumped Warbler (with a yellow throat AND a white eyebrow... possibly an Audubon/Myrtle mix) have also been hanging around.  Juncos are stopping by in increasing number (~6-12) and frequency.  And the members of the Covidae family (Steller's Jay, Western Scrub-jay, American Crow) are feeding on peanuts and suet regularly (the latter have been particularly abundant... and loud!).

The always camera-shy Western Scrub-jay, killing another good photo opportunity.

Admittedly, this week's installment was somewhat lame, but I'm tired right now... and I promise a bit more depth next time.  Until then...
